Buchans Minerals Corporation (BMC-TSX-V) is a Canadian exploration company focused on developing its base metal, industrial metal and gold properties in Atlantic Canada. The Company has three core assets, the Lundberg base metal deposit located near the town of Buchans in central Newfoundland (for which the company has completed a positive preliminary economic assessment), the Woodstock manganese deposits in New Brunswick (which are potentially one of the largest undeveloped manganese resources in North America), and the Long Range 50/50 joint venture with Benton Resources (which hosts the recent Goldquest discovery).
The Lundberg preliminary economic assessment has identified a potential internal rate of return of 43.89% and a net present value (using a 6% discount rate) of $217.8 million for the project and the Company is now seeking a partner to continue development of the project through to final feasibility. At Woodstock, the Company has initiated a hydrometallurgical program to confirm historical work that indicated the manganese could be leached from the ore. If successful, this would open the door for the initiation of a preliminary economic assessment for a project similar to the Artillary Peak deposit being developed by American Manganese Corp in Nevada. An exploration program is ongoing at the Goldquest discovery in central Newfoundland that is comprised of prospecting, trenching and drilling.
